About Us

The D&G is based in Edgbaston, Birmingham, and has specialised solely in Income Protection Insurance since 1927. It is therefore able to demonstrate a high level of expertise.

The D&G is a Friendly Society, a financial institution which is owned and governed by its members, through a committee of elected members which is supported in the day to day running by a team of employed staff.

The D&G was originally formed to protect the incomes of dentists, but membership was widened to include most professional occupations many years ago. As a result, the committee members bring a diverse range of professional backgrounds and experience to the Society.

Being constituted as a Friendly Society brings a number of benefits to members. These include the following:

The culture of the D&G is strongly geared towards the interests of its members.
Members are given a democratic opportunity to contribute towards the D&G’s activities and decisions.
The profits made by the D&G are shared between members, as a tax-free* cash lump sum, at the end of each policy or on earlier death. In some circumstances members can access their tax-free cash gained to date, and not only retain their Income Protection but also continue to accrue profits.
